Hyderabad: The National Lok Adalat will be held across Telangana state on September 13, enabling the settlement of disputes through mutual consent in the presence of legal experts, officials, and non-official members.
According to an official release, matrimonial, maintenance, harassment, and domestic violence cases, along with civil disputes, compoundable criminal cases, and matters under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, can be resolved without any fees or court expenses.
Parties in cases pending before courts may apply to have their matters referred to the Lok Adalat. If the court finds prima facie grounds for settlement, it will forward the cases for resolution in the special sitting.
Pre-litigation disputes are also eligible
Litigants may approach legal services institutions in the nearest court complex for settlement through the Lok Adalat. The release added that parties could also approach the District Legal Services Authority or the State Legal Services Authority to resolve disputes at the pre-litigation stage, before cases reach the courts.
