Hyderabad: Nepal witnessed violent Gen-Z protests after the government banned social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. Demonstrations spread across Kathmandu and six other cities, forcing authorities to impose curfew.
Security forces and the army were deployed as violence escalated. At least 20 people were killed and over 400 were injured. Protesters demanded the immediate removal of the ban.

On Monday night, the government lifted the ban after a cabinet meeting. Communication Minister Prithvi Gurung said the decision was made to address protesters’ demands.
The UN Human Rights Office condemned the violence and called for an impartial probe.
