Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal has ordered the Telangana government to stop work on the Narayanpet Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project until it gets environmental clearance.
The directive, issued on Monday, bars all construction and operational activity at the site. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had recently launched the project in his own constituency.
NGT halts Narayanpet Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project over environmental concerns
The project aims to bring irrigation to drought-prone areas of Narayanpet, Kodangal, and Makthal. It includes building the Kanukurti Reservoir in two phases and lifting water from the Krishna River.
Though the state projected it as a key lifeline, the plan drew protests during survey work. Several farmers raised objections to land acquisition and possible environmental risks.
