Hyderabad: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) pulled up the Telangana government for failing to recover the bodies of workers trapped in the SLBC tunnel in Nagarkurnool district and sought an explanation within four weeks.
The Commission issued a notice to Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, demanding a detailed report on the delay and negligence in recovering the deceased. It questioned why the victims’ bodies had not yet been retrieved and why the search efforts were inadequate.
The intervention followed a petition by human rights activist and advocate Ramarao, who alleged that families of the deceased workers have not received compensation.
The NHRC took serious note of the complaint and warned of accountability lapses if timely action is not taken.
