HYDERABAD: Doctors at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) have successfully performed a heart transplant, giving a new life to a 19-year-old patient suffering from a severe heart condition.
Anil Kumar, a 19-year-old priest from Hyderabad, had been battling a critical heart disease for some time. After undergoing tests at NIMS, doctors determined that a heart transplant was the only viable solution. Following their advice, Anil Kumar registered for an organ transplant through Jeevandan, the organ donation initiative.
Timely Organ Donation Saves a Life
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man, who had suffered severe injuries in a road accident, was declared brain-dead at a private hospital in Hyderabad. His family, showing immense generosity, decided to donate his organs. Upon examination, doctors found that his blood group matched with Anil Kumar’s, making him an ideal recipient for the heart transplant.
Through a green channel emergency transport system, the donor’s heart was swiftly transported to NIMS Hospital, ensuring minimal delay in the procedure.
A Life-Saving Surgery at NIMS
A team of expert doctors, led by Dr. Aramaresh Babu, Head of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, successfully performed the complex heart transplant surgery. NIMS Director Dr. Nagari Beerappa stated that the procedure was conducted completely free of cost under the Aarogyasri scheme, ensuring that financial constraints did not hinder the young patient’s treatment.
Currently, Anil Kumar is recovering well, with doctors closely monitoring his progress.
