Hyderabad: With outpatient numbers surging, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is expanding its OP services across several departments. Officials have moved to make key outpatient clinics available on all working days instead of the existing three-day schedule.
One of the major changes: the vascular OP will now run daily. NIMS Director Dr Beerappa confirmed the shift, stating the move aims to relieve pressure on staff and reduce long waiting times for patients.
Currently, the vascular department handles between 300 and 400 patients every OP day – creating bottlenecks and increasing patient stress. The revised schedule, starting June 1, is expected to streamline access.
Meanwhile, the paediatric building has added new subspecialty services. Clinics for paediatric rheumatology (SLE) and oncology now include a dedicated head and neck unit.
NIMS has also secured approval for four new medical departments. According to Dr Beerappa, four DM seats have been sanctioned in both the critical care and neuro-anaesthesia departments. These departments are now operational. In addition, fellowship programmes have also been launched.
