Hyderabad: Former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy on Tuesday accused the Congress government of letting public healthcare decline, saying diagnostic services in Telangana had worsened sharply. He inspected the district hospital and government diagnostics hub in Wanaparthy, met patients, and reviewed services.
Reddy said the Wanaparthy hub, once ranked second in the state after Siricilla, had dropped to 12th place. He blamed government neglect. The hub now offered only 95 of the 134 mandated tests. A 2D echo machine lay unused at the DM&HO office because no cardiologist was posted. The centre had no radiologist.
Reagents for sugar tests had run out, forcing staff to get supplies from Nagarkurnool. Tests were now done only in emergencies. Reddy said pregnant people were missing three mandatory thyroid tests because the equipment was still under repair. “The Congress government has pushed healthcare to a stage where even basic tests for low-income citizens and expectant parents are not done,” he said.
He claimed Telangana’s health department had been a national model under the previous K. Chandrashekar Rao administration but had been “derailed” under Congress. He criticised the end of the KCR Kit and nutrition kits for new parents, saying even routine medical tests were now out of reach.
Reddy demanded that the Wanaparthy hub restore all tests and that cardiologists and radiologists be appointed immediately.
