Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS leader Singireddy Niranjan Reddy on Saturday condemned the arrest of Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, calling it a blatant misuse of power and likening the situation in the state to an undeclared emergency.
He said the Congress government was suppressing dissent by filing false cases against opposition leaders. Terming the arrest “brutal,” he accused the administration of trampling democratic values.
Niranjan Reddy criticised the arrest of Kaushik Reddy at Shamshabad airport as he was returning from abroad. He alleged the act was politically motivated.
Kaushik Reddy was taken into custody by Subedari police in connection with a complaint filed by Katta Umadevi, wife of businessman Manoj Reddy, in April. She alleged the MLA had repeatedly issued threats and demanded ₹50 lakh.
Police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are continuing investigation. Reddy was shifted to Warangal following the arrest.
