Hyderabad: The 14th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon will be held on August 23–24, with organisers confirming a record 28,000+ registrations and expanded efforts around sustainability, charity, and civic participation.
The marathon, powered by IDFC FIRST Bank and recognised as a World Athletics Label Race, remains India’s second-largest city marathon. Runners from across India and abroad are expected.
T-shirt, Medal, New Partners Unveiled
At a launch event in Banjara Hills, Olympian and world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, NMDC Executive Director Sanjeev Sahi, IDFC FIRST Bank regional head Srinivas Gutti, and Race Director Rajesh Vetcha unveiled the official T-shirt and finisher medal.
New sponsors announced include Apollo Hospitals (medical partner), Asics (sports goods), and Tata Copper (hydration partner).

The route covers city landmarks including Hussain Sagar, Jubilee Hills, Durgam Cheruvu Bridge, and Biodiversity Park. Total prize money is ₹45 lakh.
Sustainability and ‘Opt-Out’ Initiative
Organisers introduced the “Opt-Out, Help-Out” programme, allowing runners to skip T-shirts to reduce waste and cut costs. The event also partners with ragpickers and waste teams to move towards carbon neutrality.
₹1.29 Cr Raised for Charity
Charity efforts continue to grow. This year’s marathon has raised ₹1.29 crore so far, with a ₹3 crore target by September 15. Contributions support 29 NGOs working in education, health, women’s empowerment, and sustainability.
Leading donors include Arcesium, HBL Engineering, and the Human Development Trust.
Promoting Active Lifestyle
Arun Kumar Kaliappan of Hyderabad Runners Society said 40% of runners come from outside Telangana, underlining national appeal. He stressed early registration closure helped participants prepare.
Nikhat Zareen praised the marathon’s rising popularity and said it inspired healthy habits. She also noted her own preparations for the upcoming World Boxing Championships in Liverpool.
Race Director Rajesh Vetcha said the event reflects Hyderabad’s community spirit. “This isn’t just about running—it’s about impact,” he said. “We’re building civic pride, supporting causes, and showcasing Hyderabad globally.”
