Hyderabad: Railway police arrested a woman from Komaram Bheem Asifabad and a man from Odisha at Secunderabad railway station on Tuesday, seizing over 12 kg of ganja trafficked from Brahmapur.
Acting on a tip-off, GRP Secunderabad, the EAGLE team of Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, and RPF conducted joint checks at the station and intercepted the accused on Platform 1 around 2:30 p.m.
Shaik Khathun Bee (58), a farm labourer from Jainoor mandal, and Ganesh Jena (42), a worker based in Charlapally, were caught with 12.482 kg of ganja, including 420 grams in chocolate form, worth ₹6.24 lakh. They arrived by Konark Express (Train No. 11020) and were waiting to hand over the contraband.
Two other suspects, A Prem and A Vasanth Nayak, both from Adilabad district, are absconding. Police said Khathun Bee had prior arrests in NDPS cases in 2016 and 2020. She was living with Vasanth Nayak in Kerameri, while Jena had moved to Hyderabad from Odisha three years ago.
According to investigators, the duo received the consignment from an unidentified masked man near Brahmapur station on July 22 and boarded the train that evening. They were acting on instructions from Prem and Nayak, who were previously booked alongside Bee in a 2020 drug case.
Authorities suspect further links to a pharma brand based in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, whose director is also absconding.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Superintendent of Railway Police Chandana Deepti and DSRP S N Jawed. The operation involved personnel from GRP, RPF, and TGANB. IGP Railways K Ramesh Naidu commended the teams and announced rewards.
