One lakh bank, insurance staff to join July 9 strike from Telugu states

Hyderabad: Nearly one lakh employees from banks and insurance companies across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will join the July 9 strike called by financial sector unions opposing the Centre’s privatisation drive.

The Joint Forum of Financial Sector Unions (JFFSU) confirmed the scale of participation following a coordination meeting in Hyderabad’s Koti, where representatives of bank and insurance employee federations resolved to intensify protests.

JFFSU convener B.S. Rambabu accused the Union government of moving aggressively on privatisation despite widespread opposition. He said the July 9 strike is a warning and threatened indefinite industrial action if the proposals are not withdrawn.

Union leaders Samad Khan, Phanikumar, Ravindranath, and Satish also attended the planning meet. The forum includes members from both officer and staff associations in the banking and insurance sectors.
