Hyderabad: OpenAI announced that it will give Indian users one year of free ChatGPT Go access starting November 4. The offer opens during a special sign-up window that coincides with the company’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru.
OpenAI free ChatGPT Go access aims to expand AI reach
ChatGPT Go provides users with affordable access to advanced AI tools. It includes higher message limits, faster image generation, extended memory, and more upload options for files and images. Moreover, these features operate on OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model, ensuring faster and smarter performance.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT Go in India in August after strong demand for a lower-cost plan. Within a month, the number of paid users in India doubled. Consequently, the company expanded the plan to nearly 90 countries across the globe.
Today, India stands as ChatGPT’s second-largest market and one of its fastest-growing regions. Millions of students, professionals, and developers use ChatGPT daily to learn new skills, create innovative ideas, and build technology-driven projects.
OpenAI aligns with IndiaAI Mission through free plan
The company said the free one-year offer reinforces its “India-first” strategy. Additionally, it supports the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to make artificial intelligence tools accessible, affordable, and inclusive nationwide.
OpenAI also continues to collaborate with educational institutions, civil society groups, and public-sector programmes to expand AI learning opportunities. Furthermore, existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will receive the same free one-year benefit, with additional details to be announced soon.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said Indian users have motivated the company to strengthen its presence in the country.
“Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go free for a year to help more people explore and benefit from advanced AI. We look forward to seeing what India builds, learns, and achieves with these tools,” he said.
