Hyderabad: Osmania PG college Mirzapur B, located in Sangareddy district’s Nyalkal mandal, is set to regain its former glory after 45 years. Osmania University has approved co-education at the campus, marking a major step forward for the only PG college in the former Medak district.
The college was established in 1980 with M.Sc. courses in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Each course had 40 seats. Hostel facilities were available for male students. However, years of neglect had brought the institution close to closure, leading students to demand its revival.
Osmania PG college Mirzapur B to admit women for the first time
Responding to appeals from locals and alumni, including principal Dr. Shivashankar, the university agreed to admit women. Female students can now study under a day-residential model, while male students will continue using hostels. This move will reduce the need for women to travel to cities like Hyderabad for PG education.
Dr. Shivashankar, who studied at this same college, led the revival efforts. He proposed co-education and pushed for new courses such as M.Sc. Organic Chemistry and an MBA program. Both are in high demand. University officials responded positively and began processing approvals.

âThe college must regain its past stature. We need everyoneâs support to bring back its relevance,â said Dr. Shivashankar.
With co-education restored and new courses expected soon, students, faculty, and local representatives have welcomed the revival effort.
