HYDERABAD: Osmania University students have been issued a major alert as the institution has announced the closure of all hostels and mess facilities from May 1 to May 31, in view of the summer break and prevailing extreme weather conditions.
In a circular issued today, the university’s Chief Warden stated that the decision was taken due to rising temperatures, acute drinking water scarcity, and power shortages across Telangana.
Students residing on campus have been requested to cooperate with the administration during this period. The hostels and mess services will reopen on June 1.
The announcement has stirred considerable discussion among students, as this is one of the few instances where the university has not only declared summer holidays but also opted to completely shut down residential services.
University officials clarified that the move prioritises student welfare in light of the harsh summer climate.
