HYDERABAD: Several student organizations at Osmania University staged a protest in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding modifications to the recently issued PhD admission notification. The students urged the university administration to revise its policies in line with recent changes in faculty retirement age.
Key Demands Raised by Students
Speaking to the media, student leaders pointed out that the retirement age for university professors has been increased to 65 years. Given this extension, they argued that retired professors should be allowed to guide PhD scholars, ensuring continued academic mentorship.
Additionally, the protesters demanded an increase in the number of PhD seats available across various departments. They also opposed the existing rank-based selection process in entrance exams, advocating for all eligible candidates to be called for interviews instead.
The students emphasized that these changes would enhance research opportunities and accommodate more aspiring scholars. They urged the university administration to consider their demands and revise the PhD admission process accordingly.
