Hyderabad is on track to host the country’s first Outer Ring Rail system, with South Central Railway finalising the alignment for the ambitious 392-km circular corridor. The project, designed to loop through eight districts and 14 mandals across Telangana, is estimated to cost ₹12,070 crore and will include 26 new railway stations.
The line will thread through Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, and Siddipet, charting a path via key points like Alair, Valigonda, Gullaguda, Masaipet, and Gajwel.
Initially proposed at 508 km, the project went through three alignment options before Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and G. Kishan Reddy backed the shortest one—392.02 km—for its proximity to key growth corridors. Despite trimming the length, officials say the final alignment still hits the mark on accessibility and development potential.
The new ring rail will mostly shadow the upcoming 361-km Regional Ring Road (RRR), staying within 3 to 5 km of it in most areas. At two stretches, the distance between the corridors will widen to 11 km. The plan also includes six rail-over-rail (RoR) flyovers at Masaipet, Gullaguda, Burgula, Valigonda, Wangapalli, and Gajwel, where the elevated line will pass over existing tracks.
With the route locked in, South Central Railway is now preparing to submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Railway Board for approval.
