Hyderabad: The Panchayat Raj Department has started a detailed verification of local body data ahead of the state cabinet meeting on August 29.
Commissioner Srujana instructed all district collectors on Saturday to recheck and confirm the names and numbers of gram panchayats, wards, MPTC, and ZPTC seats. She asked them to send the verified data to the state office without delay.
The move comes after several structural changes. Some gram panchayats have been upgraded to municipalities, while others merged with nearby corporations. These changes have caused confusion in ward and seat lists.
Officials say finalizing accurate data is essential. Any error in the list could disrupt seat reservations for SC, ST, BC, and women. It might also trigger political criticism. To prevent this, the department made collectors directly accountable for data accuracy.
The upcoming cabinet meeting is expected to focus heavily on local body elections. The department wants to ensure it places clear, error-free data before the cabinet.
