Hyderabad: A panchayat secretary in Mancherial district was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while taking a bribe for processing a housing scheme bill under the Indiramma housing programme.
Panchayat secretary caught taking ₹20,000 bribe in Mancherial
According to officials, Akkala Venkataswamy, secretary of Karnamamidi gram panchayat in Hajipur mandal, had demanded ₹30,000 from a beneficiary to upload photographs online for the release of the first instalment of the Indiramma housing bill. On Wednesday, he accepted ₹20,000 from the beneficiary when ACB officials trapped him.
The raid was conducted by ACB DSP P Vijay Kumar, who is also in charge of Adilabad, along with the Karimnagar ACB team. Following the trap, Venkataswamy was taken to the gram panchayat office for questioning before being arrested. He was later shifted to Karimnagar.
Accused to be produced before ACB court
DSP Vijay Kumar said the accused would be produced before the ACB court on Thursday. Inspectors Kiran, Tirupati and a police constable assisted in the operation.
