Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW), in coordination with Charminar Police, arrested a local drug peddler on September 25 and seized contraband worth ₹4 lakh. The seizure included 45 grams of hydroponic ganja, 2 kg of regular ganja, ₹1.03 lakh in cash, a mobile phone, and a two-wheeler.
Police identified the accused as Ali Bin Hamid (46), a native of Nampally who now lives in Bandlaguda Jagir. They booked him under Crime No. 168/2025 at Charminar Police Station, citing provisions of the NDPS Act – Section 8(c) r/w 20(b)(ii)(B).
Hydroponic ganja Hyderabad racket used dead-drop delivery system
According to officials, Ali turned to drug peddling due to financial struggles. He worked under the direction of a handler known as “Captain” (alias Farhan, also called OG bro or Ik.Jr). Ali collected OG and regular ganja from dead-drop locations and local suppliers.
He repackaged the drugs into small sachets and delivered them across the city. He accepted payments in both cash and digital modes, which he later handed over to Captain’s associates, Maaz and Moiz, at a garment shop in Gulzar Houz. The gang catered to urban buyers, especially those seeking high-priced OG (hydroponic ganja).
HNEW warns public against growing trend in drug abuse
Officials noted a troubling trend: even well-educated and employed individuals are falling into drug use and distribution. HNEW urged parents to watch their children’s behavior closely and report any signs of drug activity.
They encouraged the public to report drug-related information by calling the HNEW helpline at 8712661601. The police reiterated their goal of creating a Drug-Free Hyderabad.
Inspector S. Bala Swamy, Sub-Inspector B. Manoj Kumar (HNEW), and Sub-Inspector B. Praveen Kumar Goud (Charminar PS) led the operation with their respective teams.
