Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He pledged to continue their vision of a self-reliant and developed India.
Modi visited Raj Ghat in New Delhi and offered floral tributes to Gandhi, revered as the Father of the Nation. He later shared a message on X, describing Gandhi as a leader whose ideals reshaped human history.
The Prime Minister said Gandhi proved that courage and simplicity could drive change. He added that Gandhi’s belief in service and compassion still guides India’s path.
Modi recalls Shastri’s call of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’
Modi also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister. He hailed Shastri as an extraordinary statesman who embodied humility and decisive leadership.
Shastri, born in 1904 in Mughalsarai, coined the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Modi said the call continues to inspire patriotism and push India towards self-reliance.
Gandhi Jayanti is also marked as the International Day of Non-Violence. The day honours Gandhi’s lifelong struggle for truth, peace, and social justice.
