Hyderabad: Heavy rains in Telangana pushed the Pocharam project into spate on Sunday, flooding villages downstream and raising levels at the Nizamsagar reservoir.
Rising inflows from Nagireddypet mandal forced the Pocharam dam to release water. The outflow surged toward Nizamsagar, mirroring the flood crisis across north Telangana.
A low-pressure zone in the Bay of Bengal triggered constant rain for over a week. Districts across the state saw roads submerged and power lines downed.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued red alerts for Khammam, Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal. It warned of very heavy rain in these districts on Sunday.
Several other districts remain under orange alert. The IMD said rainfall will likely continue for three more days, with more floods expected.
