HYDERABAD: In a startling revelation that exposes glaring double standards, it has come to light that police vehicles in Telangana have racked up a massive 17,391 pending traffic challans amounting to ₹68.67 lakh.
The information came to light through a Right to Information (RTI) query filed by a citizen, Lokendra Singh. While the police are known for strictly penalising the public for traffic violations, the data reveals that many official police vehicles themselves have repeatedly flouted the very laws they enforce.
The pending challans are linked to various violations, including speeding, jumping signals, and improper parking—offences for which ordinary motorists are fined on a daily basis.
The disclosure has sparked criticism from citizens who are questioning how law enforcement agencies can demand compliance from the public when their own vehicles remain in violation with no accountability.
Activists and traffic reform advocates have called for immediate clearance of the pending dues and greater transparency in the enforcement process. Many are demanding that police departments lead by example and clear all outstanding fines to restore public trust.
