Hyderabad: Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy launched a scathing attack on the KCR-led BRS government, alleging large-scale corruption by the Kalvakuntla family during its decade-long rule. He claimed that the previous regime burdened the state with debts amounting to ₹8.19 lakh crore.
Speaking at a Gruhapravesam programme for Indiramma housing beneficiaries in Mangampalli village of Peddamandadi mandal, Wanaparthy district, the minister accused the BRS of neglecting people with low incomes while amassing wealth through commissions.
Minister slams BRS over debts, ration cards
Reddy alleged that the BRS government did not issue a single ration card in 10 years and treated people with low incomes solely as a vote bank. In contrast, he said, the Congress government had sanctioned 7 lakh new ration cards and added 17 lakh names to existing cards since coming to power.
He further criticised the previous regime for constructing only a few double-bedroom houses annually. “If the BRS had built 20,000 houses each year, every poor family would have had a home,” he said.
Kaleshwaram project corruption charges
The minister alleged that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao ignored housing projects because they did not generate commissions, but pushed the Kaleshwaram project as it offered scope for large kickbacks. He accused the BRS government of massive corruption in the irrigation project.
Reddy assured that in the next three phases, all eligible beneficiaries in every village would be provided houses under the Indiramma scheme.
