HYDERABAD: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has called for a detailed investigation into a controversial statement made by BRS MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, in which he alleged that builders and industrialists were attempting to topple the state government.
Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy accused Prabhakar Reddy of making these remarks under the direction of BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. He claimed that both KCR and his son, K.T. Rama Rao, were involved in orchestrating efforts to destabilise the Congress-led government in a bid to return to power.
The minister alleged that this conspiracy began soon after the Congress assumed office, and that the remarks were indicative of the larger agenda to undermine the mandate of the people. He linked the statement to the Congress government’s Bhūbhārati portal, which he said had exposed several irregularities and land encroachments that occurred during the BRS regime. He cited the example of 400 acres of recovered government land in the Khajaguda-Bowenpally area as part of the state’s ongoing land record reforms.
The controversy flared up after Prabhakar Reddy, who is also involved in the real estate business, reportedly said during a party meeting that industrialists and builders were working to bring down the Congress government and might even resort to purchasing MLAs if necessary.
Senior Congress leaders reacted sharply to the comments, labelling them as a serious threat to democratic governance. Many party leaders alleged that this was part of a deeper conspiracy and demanded a formal inquiry into the remarks and their potential implications.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also issued a stern warning to those allegedly involved, asserting that the government would not remain passive in the face of such plots. He said that anyone attempting to destabilise the administration should not assume that the state leadership would remain silent.
