Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday flagged off the ‘Run for a Cause: Stop Substance Abuse’ 3K event at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills.
The event saw strong participation from students and young people. It aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and reaffirm the government’s commitment to combating substance abuse.
Ponnam Prabhakar highlights youth-focused crackdown
Minister Prabhakar said that, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state government had enacted a special law to protect Telangana’s youth from drug addiction. He said enforcement agencies were conducting strict crackdowns on narcotics across the state.
He added that the government was implementing several awareness and rehabilitation programmes to prevent young people from falling into addiction. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Nasha Mukt Bharat” campaign, he said Telangana was contributing to the national effort by intensifying anti-drug drives.
The minister warned that students are especially vulnerable to drugs, which may seem harmless at first but eventually ruin lives. Therefore, he urged the public to stay alert and support awareness initiatives.
He also praised Apollo Hospitals for its leadership in healthcare and social responsibility. He said the institution continues to play a key role in organising welfare and awareness programmes for the community.
