HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has announced that he will lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission against Union Minister Bandi Sanjay for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing campaign for the Hyderabad local bodies MLC seat.
According to Prabhakar, Bandi Sanjay appealed to voters to support the BJP on religious grounds, stating that Hindu voters should vote exclusively for the BJP, and that failing to do so would mean they have forfeited their right to be called Hindus. The Minister condemned this as a blatant breach of electoral law.
Prabhakar warned that such statements not only offend religious sentiments but also threaten the neutrality of the electoral process. He stressed the importance of maintaining a fair and impartial election and called for immediate action against such irresponsible rhetoric.
He further alleged that the BJP and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) initially attempted to field a joint candidate in the Hyderabad MLC election. However, once it became clear that they lacked the required numbers, the BRS backed out of the arrangement.
The Minister demanded that the Election Commission take swift and strict action against Bandi Sanjay to set a precedent and protect the sanctity of electoral principles. He affirmed that he would soon submit a formal complaint to ensure accountability for what he described as unconstitutional language and behaviour.
