Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched a strong attack on MLC Kavitha during the Congress-led BC Maha Dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday. He accused her of politicising the BC reservations issue instead of joining the collective struggle.
Speaking at the protest alongside Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ponnam said the demand for 42% BC reservations had grown into a new Telangana movement. He warned the Central government against interpreting the issue through a political lens.
He said enhanced reservations would directly support students and job seekers from Backward Classes. Ponnam criticised the BJP for its contradictory stance—supporting the BC Bill in Telangana while avoiding commitment in Delhi.
Targeting Telangana Jagruthi founder Kavitha, Ponnam said she should protest in Delhi, not Hyderabad, if she genuinely supported BC rights. “She must pressure the BJP-led Centre, not engage in political theatre,” he remarked, calling her recent statements scripted.
He urged her to endorse the Congress-led demand for 42% reservations. Ponnam also questioned her silence on the BJP’s national position on the issue. He reiterated that the Congress remains committed to social justice through legislative reforms and public mobilisation.
