Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday issued a sharp rebuttal to MLC Kavitha’s remarks over BC reservations, stating that the Congress government allocated the 42% quota independently, not under any external pressure.
Addressing the media, Prabhakar said the decision stemmed solely from Congress leadership and policy. “We don’t act just because someone stages a protest,” he said, dismissing Kavitha’s claim that public pressure forced the ordinance.
He urged BC organisations to form a united JAC and safeguard the quota from political interference. “Anyone trying to encroach on BC rights won’t be spared,” he warned.
Kavitha had earlier called the government’s ordinance a victory for Telangana BC youth and Jagruthi, claiming sustained agitation led to the move. Her remarks drew criticism from Congress ranks, who accused her of trying to hijack the credit.
