Hyderabad: Transport & BC Welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar accused Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh of inciting regional discord by questioning Telangana water rights over floodwater diversion to Banakacherla, warning that Telangana would not concede a single drop from its allocated share.
Prabhakar said Lokesh was speaking without understanding the difference between net, surplus, and flood waters. “First learn what net water share is. Telangana was allocated 968 TMC and Andhra Pradesh 531 TMC during the bifurcation,” he said. “Only after these net allocations and surplus usage is accounted for, can floodwaters be considered.”
He said floodwaters become relevant only after full utilisation under sanctioned projects. Alleging deliberate misinformation over Telangana water rights, he accused the Andhra Pradesh government of misleading its people to create political tension.

He warned against tampering with tribunal decisions or central allocations. “We will not give up even a drop of Telangana’s rightful share. If Andhra Pradesh tries to provoke unrest under the guise of floodwater claims before Telangana’s quota is met, we will speak up for our state and our farmers,” he said.
Calling Lokesh’s comments irresponsible, Prabhakar said false claims risked worsening already tense inter-state water dynamics.
