Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday urged private hospitals in Telangana to restore Arogyasri services. He said poor patients were suffering because of the ongoing suspension.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha for expanding Arogyasri after forming the government. The coverage limit rose from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh per family.
Ponnam said the state had paid ₹1,779 crore to private hospitals under Arogyasri over the past 21 months. The government also raised treatment charges for 1,375 medical procedures by over 22 percent. It added 163 high-cost treatments to the list, increasing access for poor patients.
Government clears ₹100 crore; more payments to follow
Ponnam highlighted the jump in monthly payments—from ₹57 crore (2014–Nov 2023) to ₹75 crore (Dec 2023–Dec 2024). He said the government credited ₹100 crore to hospital accounts in the last two days. Authorities will clear pending dues in instalments.
He confirmed that Health Minister Rajanarsimha is holding regular talks with hospital managements. Urging a humanitarian response, Ponnam asked hospitals to consider the state’s financial position and resume Arogyasri services without delay.
