Hyderabad: A lightning strike on an electric pole near a drinking water well in the Perkit area under Armoor municipal limits cut power supply for more than two hours on Friday evening.
Officials said lightning hit during heavy rain with thunder and caused a sudden trip at the local substation. Engineers tried to restore supply after the rain eased, but the system failed to resume normal power.
Perkit area power outage leaves residents waiting for hours
Electricity staff traced the fault to a pole near the water well below the village tank in Perkit. They rushed to the spot and began repairs. Residents across the Perkit–Kotarmoor area remained without power for nearly two and a half hours.
Locals, including women preparing for Bathukamma festivities, waited in the dark. Many women who gathered for song and dance rehearsals had to stop practice due to the outage.
After two hours of work, officials fixed the fault and restored supply from the Perkit substation, bringing relief to households and festival preparations.
