Hyderabad: Former Intelligence official T. Prabhakar Rao appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday in connection with the phone tapping case and underwent questioning for nearly nine hours.
According to officials, the session began in the morning and continued late into the evening. Rao has been asked to appear again on Friday for further questioning.
During the inquiry, Rao reportedly stated that he acted on instructions from then DGP Mahender Reddy, under whose tenure the phone tapping operations allegedly took place. However, SIT officials have not provided clarity on whether a statement has been recorded from Mahender Reddy as part of the probe.
The investigation team has so far not confirmed any move to summon the former DGP, despite the fact that Rao attributed his actions to directions received from higher authorities during that period.
The phone tapping episode is under scrutiny for alleged surveillance activities during the previous administration.
