Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, bringing his tenure to an abrupt end. The resignation, submitted a day earlier, takes immediate effect.
Dhankhar stepped down citing health issues, submitting his resignation letter to the President following the conclusion of the first day’s proceedings of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. As Rajya Sabha Chairman, he presided over Monday’s session before announcing his decision.
President Murmu signed off on the resignation and forwarded the acceptance to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Her formal approval was issued Tuesday morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged Dhankhar’s resignation in a post on social media, calling his contributions to the country significant and commending his service in various roles, including Vice President.
