Hyderabad: A government primary school in Dabbakuchi village of Adilabad district reopened this week after remaining shut for 12 years due to a lack of students.
The school, located in Bhimpur mandal, was closed in 2013. Since then, children from the village were forced to walk two kilometres to Vadgaon or five kilometres to Bhimpur to attend school.
Following the death of a student in a road accident last year while commuting, residents of the village approached officials through the Praja Vani grievance forum, stating that the village now had 32 school-age children and demanded the school be reopened.
District Collector Rajarshi Shah responded by sending officials to the village. The school was reopened in the presence of gram panchayat members.
On the first day, 32 students were enrolled. One teacher from the Vadgaon school has been assigned to begin classes. Villagers expressed gratitude to the collector for addressing their long-pending issue.
