Hyderabad: Telangana government advisor and senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday declared that protecting the Constitution was a core duty of Bahujan communities, as he addressed the ‘Bahujan Alai-Balai’ event at Kalabharathi auditorium in Kamareddy.
Organised by the All India Ambedkar Yuvajana Sangham’s Kamareddy unit, the event saw Shabbir Ali condemn efforts to undermine constitutional values. “The BJP’s arrogant ‘Ab ki baar 400 paar’ has been challenged by Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Those dreaming of replacing the Constitution with Manusmriti will remain dreamers,” he said.
He cited public intellectuals such as Kancha Ilaiah backing Rahul Gandhi’s leadership as a sign of ideological clarity for India’s future.
Announcing a significant policy move, Shabbir Ali said Telangana under Congress rule is initiating 42% reservations for Backward Classes—claimed to be the first such implementation in the country. He called on Bahujan voters to unite in support of the Congress Party during the upcoming local body elections.
“Programmes like this must be held across the state to spread awareness and strengthen the fight to safeguard the Constitution,” he said.
Marking 75 years since the Constitution’s implementation, Shabbir Ali said it was a privilege to address the gathering in Kamareddy, urging people to follow the path of Mahatma Phule, Savitribai Phule, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, and Periyar.
He warned that reservations and rights enshrined by Ambedkar were under threat, stressing the need for political and social unity to defend them.
“Only by rallying behind the Congress Party can we preserve our constitutional legacy,” he said.
