Hyderabad: The family of a farmer who died by suicide staged a protest with his body on National Highway 44 in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday, demanding compensation from the government.
Islavath Ravinayak, a farmer from Eerlapalli Tanda in Jadcherla mandal, had consumed pesticide on Monday due to mounting debt. On Tuesday, while transporting his body home, relatives and villagers blocked the highway near Mudireddypalli. They were supported by BRS leaders, who demanded ₹50 lakh ex gratia for the deceased’s family.

Former minister and BRS district president Lakshma Reddy paid respects at the protest site. He alleged that despite rushing Ravinayak to Jadcherla government hospital, no staff were present. The family was then sent to Mahabubnagar, where doctors were also unavailable, he said.
Reddy stated that Ravinayak was shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad, but due to continued negligence, was later referred to Gandhi Hospital. There, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. He blamed the lack of timely medical care at Jadcherla’s 100-bed hospital for the farmer’s death.
He also criticised local MLA Anirudh Reddy, accusing him of ignoring farmer issues in the region.
