HYDERABAD: Protests are underway in Nereducherla, Suryapet district, demanding the immediate suspension of the municipal commissioner, Ashok Reddy. Allegations of misconduct, including misbehaviour under the influence of alcohol and verbal abuse against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, have triggered a political storm in the area.
District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) Director Dondapati Appi Reddy initiated an indefinite hunger strike outside the Nereducherla municipal office, with strong support from local BRS leaders. Protesters are calling for action against the commissioner, accusing him of corruption and abusive behaviour.
Speaking on the matter, Appi Reddy alleged that the commissioner had personally insulted him and even attempted to harm him by ramming a car. He further claimed that when he approached the commissioner to inquire about pending bills, he was met with harsh and abusive language.
Reddy expressed frustration, stating, “If the commissioner cannot even show basic respect to elected representatives, how can the common public expect fair treatment?” He accused the commissioner of behaving like a political leader rather than a government official and demanded a thorough investigation into allegations of corruption and misconduct.
BRS leaders also criticised the arrests of peaceful protesters, claiming such actions were attempts to suppress dissent. Appi Reddy has vowed to continue his hunger strike until the commissioner is suspended and appropriate action is taken.
