Hyderabad: Amid continuing rainfall across Telangana, the state Directorate of Public Health has urged citizens to stay alert against monsoon-related diseases, warning of rising risk from mosquito-borne and airborne infections.
Dengue, malaria, and chikungunya typically spike during the rainy season. Officials advised preventive measures, including installing mosquito screens on windows and doors and ensuring that water does not stagnate in and around homes.
The department called on the public to observe ‘Friday Dry Day’ every week by draining all standing water in containers and cleaning water storage areas.
Residents were advised to drink only boiled or filtered water and maintain strict personal hygiene, especially hand washing. Consumption of street food should be avoided due to the risk of gastrointestinal infections.
To prevent transmission of viral fevers and influenza, the public has been told to maintain distance from symptomatic individuals and avoid handshakes. The use of hand sanitisers was recommended when needed.
People showing symptoms such as cough, fever, headache, or sore throat should immediately visit the nearest government hospital. For emergencies, 108 ambulance services remain operational across the state. The department said all healthcare facilities have been instructed to remain fully equipped and staffed during the season.
