Hyderabad: BC Welfare Association president and MP R. Krishnaiah sharply criticised the Telangana High Court for staying the state government’s G.O. on BC reservations. He described the order as unfortunate and shocking, especially after the State Election Commission issued a notification for local body polls.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Krishnaiah said Backward Classes (BCs) had great hopes about the new reservation policy. However, they never expected such a judgment at this crucial stage. He demanded that the government hold local body elections only after implementing 42 percent BC reservations.

Krishnaiah said the government had issued G.O. No. 9 based on strong evidence. He explained that the caste census was conducted in a scientific manner. He warned that the High Court’s stay could cause serious consequences for BC representation. Moreover, he expressed doubts about the state government’s commitment to defending the policy effectively.
He reminded that Article 243D(6) of the Constitution allows states to enhance reservations. “If the Constitution provides that power, why limit it to 50 percent?” he asked. He insisted that BCs should receive reservations proportional to their population. Krishnaiah also said he had been fighting in Parliament for the BC Bill to ensure legal protection for these rights.
He announced that BC organisations would stage rallies and protests across the state. Furthermore, he warned that they might call for a statewide bandh within the next two to three days if their demand was ignored.
