Hyderabad: Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, on Wednesday held a meeting with 27 bankers and cybercrime personnel at the CP office in Neradmet to review measures for cybercrime prevention and detection. The session focused on stricter banking protocols, stronger customer safeguards, and faster fraud detection and refunds.
Officials talked through a set of preventive measures from tighter account opening norms and dedicated help desks to transaction caps, added safeguards in the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), and better support for victims facing delayed or failed transactions.
On detection, bankers were urged to provide APIs, update Points of Handover (POH) in the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal, share pool account and merchant beneficiary details, and supply KYC records, IP logs and account statements. Banks were also told to monitor multiple accounts linked to the same mobile number, email ID or PAN.

CP Sudheer Babu said cybercrime was rising sharply, with reported cases up by 48 percent in 2024. He stressed that traditional crimes had shifted to online frauds and bankers must adapt ethics and practices accordingly. He also underlined the need for banks to recognize victims’ agony and announced the creation of a WhatsApp group for real-time fraud detection.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crimes) addressed technical issues, while DCsP for Crimes and Administration also participated in the meeting.
