Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police commissionerate, in partnership with the Rachakonda Security Council (RKSC), launched the Golden Care initiative to support and safeguard older citizens across its jurisdiction.
Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu is leading the programme, which provides emotional support, regular outreach visits, cyber safety awareness, and emergency response. A dedicated SOS setup and medical aid through hospital tie-ups are also part of the effort.
The initiative helps older residents access welfare schemes like pensions, health insurance, and government medical aid. Police officers will handle complaints related to financial fraud, emotional or physical abuse, neglect, and abandonment. They will also assist in locating lost items or missing individuals.
Legal provisions strengthen the programme. Section 144 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) allows action against those who neglect dependents. Sections 4 and 5 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act enable older people to claim support from their children.
Rachakonda police have set up a helpline (14567) and a WhatsApp number (8712662111) to ensure quick access to help.
“Our older citizens are the true pillars of strength and wisdom in our society. Through Golden Care, we are not just providing security, but also compassion, dignity, and respect,” said Sudheer Babu.
The launch event included all Rachakonda deputy commissioners, RKSC joint secretary Siva Karadi, chief coordinator Savithri, Suryanarayana, senior officers, and RKSC traffic marshals.
Police officials plan to hold regular reviews of the initiative to expand its reach and improve services for older residents.
