Hyderabad: Rachakonda police have laid out detailed safety measures for Ganesh Festival 2025, which begins on August 27 and ends with idol immersions on September 6. Police commissionerate officials met with festival organizers and department heads on Monday to plan security and civic readiness.
Immersion day on September 5 coincides with Milad-un-Nabi. The day is expected to see bike rallies, religious gatherings, and foot processions. Police will focus on sensitive spots, key traffic zones, and immersion routes to prevent clashes and ensure public safety.
In 2024, the commissionerate recorded 13,472 Ganesh idols across four zones: Malkajgiri (4,644), LB Nagar (3,385), Maheshwaram (2,175), and Bhongir (3,268). Of these, 1,029 were taken to Tank Bund for immersion. Police registered 36 cases during last year’s festival.
Organizers must install only clay idols and place temporary Mandaps made of safe materials. All structures must be set up away from roads, electric lines, and disputed sites. Mandaps must have proper wiring, barricades, clean surroundings, and basic fire safety. Volunteers should carry ID cards and manage crowd flow. Authorities urged early immersions on the 3rd, 5th, or 7th day to reduce pressure on the final day.
Procession rules require one idol per vehicle, no oversize transports, and display of the serial number from the Deputy Commissioner of Police. PoP idols must go into artificial ponds. Drones, crackers, provocative music, and unauthorized speakers are banned. Organizers must block alcohol use, gambling, and unsafe behavior.
Mandaps and flags must be removed immediately after immersion.
GHMC must clear garbage, repair roads, and post cranes and sanitation staff at immersion points. It must also install mobile toilets and temporary lights along procession paths. The Roads and Buildings Department will handle barricades, standby power, and overhead wire safety. Tree-cutting squads will be on call to clear obstructions.
The Tourism Department will deploy trained swimmers and rescue boats. Medical teams will set up first-aid camps and keep ambulances on standby. Fire engines will be stationed at key points. The power board must ensure stable electricity and install extra transformers. The Water Board will provide drinking water in tins at immersion sites.
