Hyderabad: BJP MP Raghunandan Rao on Tuesday criticised Congress leader Naveen Yadav for distributing voter ID cards in Jubilee Hills. He called the act a “mockery of democracy” and demanded an explanation from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Raghunandan Rao attacks Congress over voter card row in Jubilee Hills
Raghunandan Rao said it was shocking that a Congress leader seeking a ticket organised a voter card distribution event. He added that the move violated the election code and disrespected the law. Moreover, he said Naveen Yadav even posted the photos on Jubilee Hills Congress’s official pages.
The MP pointed out that only the Election Commission and authorised officials can distribute voter cards. “When politicians start doing it themselves, democracy collapses,” he said. Rao also targeted Rahul Gandhi. “He talks about vote theft nationwide, but voter card theft is happening under his own party in Telangana,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he asked how the cards reached Congress leaders when they should remain under the Election Commission’s control. “Revanth Reddy must explain this serious violation,” Rao demanded.
Earlier, election officer Rajinikanth Reddy filed a complaint with Madhura Nagar Police. He accused Naveen Yadav of distributing voter cards during the election period. Police booked Yadav under Sections 170, 171, and 174 of the IPC and the Representation of the People Act.
