HYDERABAD: Congress senior leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, made sharp allegations against the Election Commission of India during his ongoing visit to the United States.
While addressing members of the Indian diaspora in Boston, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Election Commission in India had been compromised and was riddled with systemic flaws.
He cited the recent Maharashtra assembly elections as a key example. “It is clear to us that the Election Commission has compromised. I have said this multiple times. Just look at the recent Maharashtra elections—between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, the Election Commission itself claimed that 6.5 million people voted. How can so many people vote in such a short time? Physically, it is impossible. Something clearly went wrong,” he alleged.
Gandhi further said that when Congress demanded video footage as evidence, the Election Commission refused to share it and even amended the law to prevent such requests in the future.
The Congress party confirmed that Rahul Gandhi is currently on a two-day tour of the United States. He is scheduled to visit Brown University in Rhode Island, where he will interact with students and faculty members. Additionally, he will hold meetings with NRI associations and members of the Indian Overseas Congress.
It is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi has made controversial remarks during his foreign tours. In past visits, his comments on religious freedom and reservation policies in India have sparked widespread debate. Now, his remarks targeting the Election Commission have once again stirred political discourse.
