Hyderabad: AICC leaders on Wednesday praised former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for shaping modern India and empowering youth through historic reforms. They said Rahul Gandhi would carry forward that vision, with a promise to allow 21-year-olds to contest Assembly elections if elected Prime Minister.
Speaking at a party event, Congress leaders said Rajiv Gandhi not only introduced the voting right at 18 but also pioneered women’s reservation in local bodies, digital governance, and telecom reform. They credited his vision for the creation of Hyderabad’s Hitec City and said Telangana’s administration today draws inspiration from his ideals.
“Rajiv gave India computers and connected villages with telecom. His ideas laid the foundation for the future,” a party speaker said. “It was his dream to make governance inclusive and youth-driven.”
The leaders declared that Rahul Gandhi, if elected PM, would introduce a bill to lower the minimum age to contest Assembly elections to 21. “Rahul’s leadership is essential to turn these dreams into law,” they said, adding, “We will not rest until Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister.”
They called on the youth to draw inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi and support Rahul’s leadership in the upcoming elections.
