Hyderabad: Continuous rainfall over the past several days has significantly raised water inflows into the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs. On Sunday, Water Works officials opened six gates of Osmansagar up to four feet to discharge excess water into downstream areas.
The inflow at Osmansagar was recorded at 2,000 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 2,652 cusecs. The current water level is 1,789 feet, just one foot below its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1,790 feet. The reservoir now holds 3.71 TMC of water against its full capacity of 3.90 TMC.
Officials open Himayatsagar gates as water levels surge
Himayatsagar is also witnessing increased inflow due to continued rain. Officials have opened two gates up to three feet to manage the rising water pressure. The inflow reached 900 cusecs, with an outflow of 1,981 cusecs recorded.
The water level at Himayatsagar currently stands at 1,762.75 feet, slightly under its FTL of 1,763.50 feet. The reservoir is holding 7.744 TMC of water. However, the official full capacity is 2.970 TMC, indicating a possible reporting discrepancy.
Authorities have advised residents living along the Musi riverbanks to stay alert and be prepared to evacuate to safer locations if necessary.
