Hyderabad: Eleven villages in Adilabad district were cut off on Thursday as continuous rains and swollen streams disrupted transport and flooded low-lying areas.
In Bhimpur mandal, rainfall reached 76.8 mm, followed by 76.1 mm in Jainath, 68.3 mm in Satnala, and 52.1 mm in Indravelli. Heavy downpour was also recorded in Boraj (51 mm), Narnoor (47.4 mm), Bela (45.4 mm), and Adilabad Urban (38.5 mm). In Gadiguda mandal, the overflowing Khadgi stream blocked access to several villages.
In Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, backwater from the flooded Pranahita river inundated streams and drains across Sirpur (T), Koutala, Chintalamanepalli, Bejjur, Penchikalpet, and Dahegaon mandals. Bejjur mandal was worst hit, with 11 villages isolated by the rising water. An estimated 1,500 acres of cotton and other crops along the riverbank were submerged.
At the Kumram Bheem project, inflows stood at 850 cusecs. Two gates were lifted to release 880 cusecs.
In Adilabad agency areas, even short spells of rain triggered stream overflows, trapping tribal villagers inside hamlets for days. Lack of bridges across streams and poor road access forced locals to risk dangerous crossings or remain cut off. Remote villages in Indravelli, Sirikonda, Narnoor, Utnoor, Bazarhathnoor, and Ichoda mandals were particularly affected.
Access roads to villages like Chittabatta, Jendaguda, Jaitran Tanda, Arkapur, Mamidiguda, Kothapalli, Morkandi, Umardha, Buddunayak Tanda, Mankapur, Narsapur J, Aadaguda, Vankathumma, Pataguda, Umri, and Chittaguda remained hazardous. Residents navigated floodwaters on foot due to the absence of bridges, placing their lives at risk.
