Hyderabad: The Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy Educational Society on Friday marked the 156th birth anniversary of Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy at YMCA X-Road, Narayanaguda. Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, IPS, attended as chief guest and paid floral tributes by garlanding the statue of the former Kotwal.
Speaking at the event, Anand praised the contributions of Venkatram Reddy, who served as the 14th Kotwal under the Nizam. He recalled that Reddy began his career as a Subedar in 1891 and rose to become Commissioner in 1920. During 14 years of service, he worked for women’s education, widow remarriage, and eradication of social evils, while handling both civic and policing duties. He also established several educational institutions that benefited generations.
The Commissioner also lauded the Raja Bahadur Venkatram Reddy Educational Society for its community service. On behalf of the society, Anand presented gold medals and ₹5,000 cash awards to three officers for their outstanding performance: Inspector K. Satish Reddy, Cyber Crime Hyderabad; SI S. Suresh, Cyber Crime Hyderabad; and DI S. Venkateswarlu, Shadnagar, Cyberabad Commissionerate.
The event saw the participation of DCP East Zone B. Balaswamy, IPS, along with society leaders Teegala Mohan Reddy (Secretary), M.V. Ranga Reddy (President), A. Sukanya Reddy (Vice President), Vasudeva Reddy (Joint Secretary), and G. Krishna Reddy (Treasurer). Several city police officers and society members were also present.
