Hyderabad: Fresh signs of discord emerged in Telangana Congress as Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy expressed frustration with the party leadership, accusing it of sidelining him despite his long-standing experience.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Rajagopal Reddy said he rejoined the Congress only after being promised a cabinet post. He claimed party leaders assured him a ministerial berth if he helped deliver the Bhongir parliamentary seat. “Whether I get the post or not, I won’t beg for positions. I care about dignity, not power,” he said.
He criticised the leadership for favouring newer entrants over those with more experience. “If this continues, I’m ready to step aside again—for the people,” he warned.
Reddy resigned from the Congress and his MLA post on August 2, 2022. He later joined the BJP during a public rally in Munugode, which Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended. The BJP inducted him into its national executive.
His stint with the BJP lasted only a few months. He resigned from the party on October 25, 2023, and returned to Congress two days later in Delhi, in the presence of party in-charge Manickam Tagore.
