Hyderabad: Police closed the Rajendranagar–Himayath Sagar service road on Saturday after heavy rain left it under water. Barricades went up on both ends near Rajendranagar. Traffic was sent on alternate routes with officers posted round the clock.
Himayath Sagar gates opened amid floods
The Himayath Sagar reservoir was nearing its full level of 1,763.5 feet. Inflows reached 1,763.1 feet as rains upstream continued without break. To ease pressure, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board staff lifted four gates, sending large volumes downstream into the Musi River.
The release swelled the Musi, putting riverbank settlements at risk. Officials and police warned residents and began moving families from low-lying areas to relief centres. Work crews monitored the banks as floodwater continued to rise.
